Your Impact through Jump

Here are just a few ways your participation and donations in support of Jump Rope for Heart have helped make a difference in the lives of Canadians.

Heart Failure Research Network grant:

In 2022, $24.2 million in research supported 476 best-in-class researchers from across the country. $5 million supported the first-ever Heart Failure Research Network grant which will fund a team of 100 researchers led by Dr. Jean Rouleau at the Montreal Heart Institute, working together to improve prevention, detection, and management of heart failure.

Protecting youth and adults from nicotine:

Legislative changes introduced in 2022 included a new 20% tax on vaping products in Saskatchewan and a comprehensive ban on flavoured vaping products in the Northwest Territories. New federal regulations to revise tobacco health warning messages and place warnings directly on cigarettes will make Canada the first country in the world to introduce these types of health warnings.

Restricting the marketing of unhealthy foods to kids:

As a champion of the objectives of the Stop Marketing to Kids Coalition, Heart & Stroke was pleased to see new regulations in Health Canada’s 2022 regulatory plan, which would restrict the marketing of food and beverages high in sodium, sugars and saturated fat to children.

Empowering Canadian youth with brain and heart health knowledge:

In 2023, 770,678 students in 2,600 schools across Canada learned healthy habits and the signs of a stroke through participation in the Jump Rope for Heart.

Through the HeartSmartKids program we have reached 1,557 educators and 53,000 children across the country to encourages healthy habits. 463 were educators of Indigenous students who reached over 14,027 children and their families.

Meet some of our Heart Heroes

Donating to Jump directly contributes to saving lives and promoting a healthier future for children across Canada - children like Julian and Alyssa.

Julian

Pediatric Stroke Survivor

At six months old, doctors discovered Julian had a hole in his heart. He underwent open heart surgery at three years old and afterward suffered a pediatric stroke. Julian is now five years old and is still actively recovering.

Julian’s mom, Joyce, says, “It's so important to advocate for pediatric Stroke and spread awareness that strokes happen at any age." She emphasizes, "It can happen to anyone, and knowing the signs is critical.”

Alyssa

Born with a Heart Condition

Alyssa was born with a congenital heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot. Alyssa had her first heart surgery when she was just five months old.

Her mom, Megan, says, "Alyssa wouldn't be here if today's medicine wasn't as advanced as it is. Many moons ago, kids didn't make it to their teenage years with this defect. Thanks to continuing education and research, new ways to cure and maintain these issues and many others are possible!"
